Going out of Lijiang, walking towards the north then east for four kilometers, you will see a crowded village at the foots of two mountains , this is Shuhe which is called the village of springs. Shuhe ancient village is 7 kilometers away from Lijiang, 3 kilometers from Baisha. Shuhe and Baisha is the earliest settlement of the ancestor of Naxi ethnic nationality, also the cradle of Mushi Tusi. You can feel Naxi customs deeper here. In Ming dynasty, it was the important village of Lijiang. Shuhe is built besides the water and back with mountains, the residential houses are built shoulder by shoulder. There is a spring at the end of the street, called “Jiu Ding Long Quan”, also called” Longquan”. There are willows sprawling to the ground and cypresses penetrating to the sky around the spring, also with clear water and fish in it. The water from the spring flows meanderingly to the village, you can hear its sound from afar. There is a small four-sided street which is 33 meters long, 27 meters wide, which can be washed by letting the water. The smooth flagstones which have been stepped on are just like the mirror of the past flourish. Shuhe was once famous for its developed education and leather processing and bamboo crafts. In the Qianlong time of Qing dynasty , Yixueguan which was sponsored by the government and other three private educational schools were founded. Primary schools and middle schools are founded to make Shuhe to be a famous talent village.
