China protection and research center of giant panda of Ya’an Bifeng Xia base which is situated in Bifeng Xia beauty spot area in rain city Ya’an, Sichuan, which is 150 kilometers away from capital Chengdu, 15 kilometers from Ya’an city area, it takes only one and half hours from Chengdu Shuangliu international airport to the base. The natural ecological conditions here are very extraordinary, it’s only dozens of kilometers from here to giant natural protection area. In 1869, the first giant panda in the world was found in Ya’an .Among the core areas in the United Nations’world natural heritage of Sichuan giant panda habitat’， Ya’an accounts for 52%.

Ya’an Bi Feng Xia base of China protection research center of giant panda was invested and constructed by the Chinese State Forestry Administration, situated in Ya’an Bi Feng Xia beauty spot area with altitude between 1100 to 1800 meters, planned total area of near 6000 mu (unit of area).After its construction, the base will be the biggest giant panda protection base. In order to insure the safety of the giant panda, expand the living space of giant panda, promote the protection career of giant panda, Ya’an Bi Feng Xia panda base was put into construction in 2001, with 3 periods of base construction. The first period squared 1071 mu, invested near 120 million by State Forestry Administration and others, which will be finished in December,2003. The first period of construction will build 16 suits of giant panda villas, one giant panda scientific research center, giant panda hospitals, giant panda feeding center, giant panda breeding center, giant panda display center, staff living and logistical support center and so on. There were total 20 pandas immigrated from other panda centers at that moment, one panda was bred successfully here.

In the 5.12 Wenchuan earthquake, the living places of the giant panda of Wolong base ,China protection and research center were destroyed badly, the infrastructures were paralyzed ,the living of pandas faced huge difficulties. Since 18th May, the 53 pandas in Wolong center have been diverted to Ya’an center gradually for five times . A t the moment , there are 61 pandas here in Ya’an Bi Fenga Xia base, which makes the living space here very crowd, it’s a lack of living space. So it was crucial to start the second period of construction, till December 2008,there have been 20 suits of panda villas completed, letting the pandas moved into their new homes. There are 13 pandas from 8 fetals, besides several prospective mothers waiting to give birth to baby pandas. Ya’an is a serene, happy living home for them forever. As the divert of the pandas, the China National Tourism Administration put ‘Ya’an panda tour ‘into one of the 32 excellent tour lines national wide.
