Phoenix ancient city in western Jiangxi is a famous national historical and cultural city which was called as the most beautiful city in China by famous Mew Zealand writer Rewi Alley. On the 17th December, 2001, it was included as the historical and cultural city in China by the State Council. Phoenix city is located in the juncture of Hunan, Guizhou, Chongqing, there is railway and road. The nearest airport is Tongren-Daxing airport which is 27 kilometers away from the county and the transportation here is very convenient..

The scenery here is very beautiful, with long history and many places of interests in Phoenix city. There are stone roads, ancient buildings, ancient gardens of Ming and Qing dynasties, Tuojiang river flowing smoothly across the city. There are forests, natural customs of the nationality outside of the city which shows the perfect combination of the human beings and the nature. The main scenic spots in Phoenix city are: sailing on Tuojiang, Diaojiaolou of Miao ethnic nationality, Shen Congwen former residence, Xiong Xiling former residence, Yangjia Ancestral, Eastern gate tower, Rainbow and Wind and Rain tower, Wangshou palace, Chongde hall, Ancient city museum. There is underearth art palace-Qiliang cave , Huangsiqiao which was built in Tang dynasty, Southern Great Wall and beautiful characterized Miao village.

Tuo Jiang River is the mother river of the ancient Phoenix town . On the Boat with Black Awning, listening to the boaters’ slogans, watching the Tujia Stilted House with hundred’s history on the both sides of the river , you will get another feeling. along the river, there are : Wangshou Palace, Wangming Pagoda, Duocui Tower. The south bank of Tuojiang river is the ancient wall which was made of purple gravel, graceful and magnificent. There are east and north towers along the city wall which is through history but also magnificent. The stilted buildings along the Tuojiang river are near eastern gate rainbow bridge and northern gate leaping stone. They are standing in the river with their slim feet ,which is a remote scene.

The eastern gate tower
It is located in the east of the city, near Tuojiang river. It was fist built in 1715, the lower parts were made of purple gravel, the upper parts were made of bricks. The wall gate is 3.5 meters wide, 4meters high, semi-arch. The two gates are firm because they are wrapped with iron sheet and nailed by the round-head metal nails. The wall are made of red gravels which is 11meters high with loopholes above the gate.

Former Residence of Shen Congwen
Shen Congwen (1902-1988) was one of the most famous writers in Chinese history as well as a historian and archaeologist. This former residence was built in 1866 , which is the four –walled courtyard with 600 square meters coverage area. There are 10 rooms in the front and back two buildings . Mr.Shen was born on the 28th, December 1902 and spent his childhood and his adolescent time here.

Former Residence of Xiong Xiling
The former residence of Xiong Xiling is in a small valley of Northern Wenxing street. Go east for 200 meters is the beautiful TuoJiang river. The residence was the Southern ancient wood and brick four –walled courtyard building which was first built in 1869. it is small but exquisite with the reserved four rooms are characterized Miao nationality.

Yangjia Ancestral
It was built in 1836. The wooden four-walled courtyard is divided into two stories with an area of 770 square meters, including gate, opera stage, aisle, hall. It is located near the ancient wall of the northeast of the town. The opera and the carved and painted beams of the roof are full with national characteristics and exquisiteness. The decorations of the windows, doors, eaves are hollowing with clear national characteristics and high art values of buildings.

Southern Great Wall
Chinese southern Great Wall was firstly built in 1554. It was started in Tingziguan in the south, the intersection with Guizhou Tongren, and to the north Magpie camp in Jishou, 190 kilometers long. It was called “the great wall of Miaojia’, one of the biggest ancient projects in China.

Yellow Ribbon bridge ancient town
It is located to 24 kilometers west of the town with 1300 years’ history. It is part of the southern great wall, which was the place that ancient Han and Miao disputed to conquer. The ancient town is facing the east which is made of grey stone. The circumference of the wall is 686meters, 153 meters east-west long, 190 meters south—north long with an area of 29070 square meters, 5.6 meters high,2.9 meters thick. The road on the wall is 2.4 meters wide that you can ride on it.

Qiliang cave
It is located to the 4 kilometers of the north of the town, a typical carbonate cave. It is 6000 meters long,with five scenic areas: ancient battle field, painting corridor, heaven, dragon palace and Ying and Yang river. There are caves in the mountains and mountains in the caves and every cave attaches each other. There are sheer stones and grotesque rocks, flowing springs and falls in caves , constituting a beautiful scenery with stalactite， stalagmite. A brook flows smoothly across the cave , the light reflects on the wall, the shadow reflects on the water ,just like a dream.
