Itinerary::
Day 1 Chengdu - Xining by train (with a total length of 1388 km, 26-hour
journey time)
Depart from Chengdu to Xining, capital of Qinghai province at 12:18 a.m,
sightseeing the beautiful scene along the way, overnight in the train.
Day 2 Xining
Arrive in Xining at 12:25 a.m, then visit Tu Minority Valley, reputed
as “the hometown of Rainbown”, overnight at Xining, include lunch and
supper. (a distance of 70 km, 1.5-hour drive)
Day 3 Xining- Qinghai Lake- Chaka
After breakfast, drive to Qinghai Lake, sightseeing Jinyintan Prairie
by bus (120 km long, 2.5-hour drive), where the love story of Tibetan
girl, Drolma and Wang Luobin, and the household song—In a Far Away Land
come from here. Sightsee Mountain Sun and Moon by bus (a distance of 90
km, 2-hour sightseeing), later head to Qinghai Lake, which is the largest
inland salt-water lake in China, then back to Chaka (a distance of 150
km, 3-hour drive), overnight at Chaka, include three meals..
Day 4 Chaka-Golmud
After breakfast, visit Chaka Salt Lake (Ticket: 60 RMB/person) (2 to 3-
hour sightseeing). Get an understanding of the function of salt regeneration,
walk into the world of salt, and see fabulous salt boom. If you are lucky,
you could come across mirage. Then drive across the Gobi Desert, appreciate
the landscape of Qaidam along the way. Arrive at Golmud, the pearl of
Qaidam Basin, one of the three largest cities on the Tibet Plateau (a
distance of 150 km, 8-hour drive on the Grade 1 Road), overnight at Golmud,
and include three meals.
Day 5 Golmud-Qinghai-Tibet Train-Lhasa (a total length of 1142 km, 15-hour
drive)
Morning get up early, take Tibet train hard-seat at 05:30 to 06:32 a.m.
to Lhasa, the city of sunlight. You can enjoy the breathtaking Tibet Plateau
and the landscape along the railway. (a short while after departing from
Golmud, come to the pass of Kunlun Mountain, visitors could see the grandeur
of Kunlun Mountain and Kunlun Spring from the train. The train will pass
by the wild animal passage specially made by Kekexili. Visitors can see
the rare species of plants and animals of Kekexili in this area, if lucky
enough, Tibetan antelopes can be seen running along the railway from the
window. The train will cross the magnificent Tuotuo River, the source
of theYangtze River, and the Mt.Tanggula, the Roof of the World, Tanggula
River, which is about 5,072m, the highest place of Qinghai-Tibet railway.
After that you are going to drive on the highland grassland which is a
large area of pasture. Natso Lake lying between Amdo and Nagchu, is the
next attraction and a feast for the eye with its crystal clear blue water.
) Arrive in Lhasa in the evening. Visitors will be presented a pure Hada
by local tour guide, and feel the Tibetan customs. Then head to hotel,
overnight at Lhasa, include breakfast.
Day 6 Lhasa
Morning visit the Potala Palace, of ancient castle-style architectural
structure with the highest elevation in the world, the home monastery
of the Dalai Lama of each generation and the religious and political center
of Tibet (Ticket: 100 RMB/person, only one hour sightseeing). After lunch,
tour the Jokhang Temple, regarded as the holy place by Tibetan Buddhism
disciples, enshrining the gilded bronze statue of the 12-year-old Sakyamuni
which Tang Dynasty Princess Wencheng brought to Tibet (Ticket: 85 RMB/
person, one hour sightseeing), then head to Barkhor Street (free time:
around 40 minutes), where you can experience Tibetan customs and culture,
or buy handicrafts with ethnic features. Overnight at Lhasa, all three
meals are included. (all day’s activities are taken in the city proper,
around 15-minute drive)
Day 7 Lhasa- Yamdrok Yamtso Lake-Lhasa
Cross Mt. Kampala, the Yamdrok Yamtso Lake comes into your eyes, one of
the three holies lakes in Tibet (Ticket: 40 RMB, 1hour sightseeing, a
length of 110 km, 2.50-hour drive).The Yamdrok Yamtso means “Swan Pond”
in Tibetan, with an elevation of 4441 meters, the largest freshwater lake
in Tibet. Then back to Lhasa by bus (a length of 110 km, 2.5-hour drive),
overnight at Lhasa, all three meals are included.
Day 8 Lhasa-Chengdu
Depart from Lhasa to Chengdu by flight, the end.
